No Child Left Behind - A Closer Look

The federal law known as No Child Left Behind (NCLB) has forever changed the American education system.  Enacted by President Bush in 2001, its aim was to standardize accountability.  But it seems to have done so much more.

Part one examines How schools take advantage of the little-known and rarely discussed “loopholes” that are buried in the fine print of the law. In part two, we visit two schools in San Diego that took advantage of the law to turn their schools around. And finally, in part three, we talk with some of the best teachers in the country–some of whom say that NCLB makes their jobs both more difficult and less rewarding.

This three-part series premiered in 2007 and takes a closer look at the law.  The series is accompanied by ten podcasts featuring interviews with teachers, policy makers, then-Education Secretary Margaret Spellings and more.
